We perform energy code calculations for projects ranging from simple buildings using ResCHECK/ComCHECK programs, to complex buildings which require more demanding energy modeling, using eQuest / DOE-2 software and ASHRAE 90.1 standard. We provide green building and LEED® consulting services and filing with U.S. Green Building Council. Our engineers are LEED® accredited professionals and have strong knowledge and experience with USGBC filing process for mechanical, electrical and plumbing credits. We select materials, equipment and engineering approaches during the design and construction phases of the project to assure that the highest possible number of credits is secured. We also write and review specifications for LEED® compliance. Communication and coordination early in the development phase of the project with all involved parties is our way of securing that the project is smoothly and timely brought from the inception through to the final LEED® certification.
One of the main advantages of the energy simulation is client's early awareness of energy consumption of the building and energy cost for different design options, so informed decision could be made about the most cost-effective and energy-efficient design approach. Our engineers work closely with the owners, architects and other disciplines engineers in order to provide the best thermal comfort, space lighting and building orientation, yet the highest energy efficiency and most economically and environmentally friendly design approach. This way we increase energy efficiency while reducing first and maintenance costs and lowering environmental impact. We perform advanced climate analysis, integrated energy systems design and energy modeling using eQUEST (DOE-2) software, which could also possibly pave a way for LEED® certification of the project.
Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) is a method of assessing project alternatives that meet the same performance requirements, but have different initial costs and life-cycle costs (electricity, gas, oil, water, repair, maintenance, taxes...). By providing complete financial picture of the project and comparing incremental costs and benefits of the alternatives over their lifetime (e.g. purchase and usage of more expensive but highly-efficient HVAC equipment to purchase and usage of less expensive but low-efficient one, or purchase of more expensive but energy saving low-E glazing system to purchase of regular single-pane windows), client can confidently make selection of the alternative that not only maximizes net savings and financial return, but also reduces investment risk by providing a more complete picture of the future expenses.
One of the main reasons for the project delays and increased construction costs are errors and omissions in the construction documents. To assure timely and economical project flow, we provide quality control (peer review) and quality assurance for mechanical (HVAC), electrical, plumbing and fire protection design and construction documents. We check for appropriate coordination between design disciplines (the owner, architect, structural engineer, civil engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, plumbing and fire protection engineer), determining errors and omissions and inconsistencies in the design. We also check for equipment capacities and system flow rates (load and hydraulic calculations), general constructability, and ductwork and pipe sizes.
